- During Pregnancy with information and resources
- During labor/birth with hands-on support and guidance
- Remaining objective and helping you and your partner feel confident
- Communication Support
- Assisting with effective communication between clients and medical caregivers with:
- Culturally competent communication
- Direct communication in ASL
- Gentle reminders of your right to effective communication and support if there are difficulties during labor /birth in getting those accommodations.
- Assisting with effective communication between clients and medical caregivers with:
- Continuous Support
- During Pregnancy, Early labor, Labor, Birth, Lactation, Postpartum and beyond.
- On call at 36 weeks
- Unlimited call/text/contact and access before and after birth
What Doulas are NOT
- Do not make decisions for you
- Do not speak for you
- Are not a Doctor, Midwife or Nurse
- Do not provide Clinical Care or examine you or your baby.
- Does not replace the care of your medical provider
Do I need a doula?
- Support:
- Available during my pregnancy
- On call and with me during labor and birth
- Available if needed during postpartum period for lactation support.
- Never judge me about my decisions.
- Respect me and my decisions for my baby.
- Help me create a birth plan
- Minimum of 2 visits before birth to prepare with my doula.
- Education:
- Available to answer my Questions about pregnancy, labor and birth, lactation and postpartum.
- How to have a trauma free birth
- Learn about risks before procedures
- Learn about my rights as a birthing parent or partner
- Learn how to lower my risks of an emergency cesarean and interventions.
